Urumqui or Urumqi or Wulumuqi, the end
of the world
Xinjiang has an extensive area and a long
history. It is the most important section of the ancient Silk Road,
endowed with large quantities of cultural relics and historical sites. As
a result of the region's dry climate characterised by scarce
precipitation, drought and sand storms, all kinds of relics have survived
the natural tear and wear of the past thousands of years.

Museum of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous region
Along the south, middle and north routes of the ancient Silk
Road, totaling over 5000km, there have been found over 4000 historical
sites. Its large quantities of ancient cultural relics have made
Xinjiang an archeological treasure house for documents, textile
works, pottery vessels, clay figures, silk paintings and ancient
corpses unearthed. These relics are the a testimony to the fact
that the Xinjiang people of the many nationalities, on the basis
of the creative development of their own culture, have absorbed
fine elements from abroad, created the unique culture and played
an important role in promoting the cultural and friendly exchange
between the East and the West.
The People's park
China constantly uses the expression
"Western Region" for better indicating the domination of Han people
over other cultures.
