Urumqi
is the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The city lies west of Bogda Mountain(part of the Tianshan
Range) and at the southeastern edge of Junggar Basin.
For over two thousand years, the area around Urumqi
has been lush pastures populated by many minorities
who herded sheep and cattle, Urumchi actually meaning
"beautiful pastures" in Mongolian.
